Winter scene WIP by dareme Winter scene WIP by dareme
Made in/with Blender (www.blender.org)

After a dozen or so practice projects and tutorials, I'm finally creating something original. The style is heavily inspired by this tutorial on geometric assets on BlenderCookie, but all meshes are being created originally.

I need to do something about the forest, which is currently looking very odd, and fix the lighting somehow. Also, the backdrop was supposed to be kind of flat (I envisioned the whole scene kind of like something that kids make in a shoebox), but now I find the space between the mountains kind of too bland and boring, so that might have to go.
When it's done, it's supposed to be a christmas-y winter-y abstract landscape. :D

Tips and feedback are appreciated! :giggle:

in my opinion the trees are too big respect the mountains,  maybe try to scale them and add a couple more for give the idea of forest. For the background i suggest to add a kind of depth of field. Also give some random polygons to your grond might help.
Couldn't wait for the final render :)

Softer lights might help.  If this is cycles then increasing the size would do that.  I agree with zuoman about the trees.  For the mountains you could create stratas where the ground level might be grass poking through the snow  then an earthy layer higher up, followed by a rocky layer both with patchy snow and then a solid snow layer at the top - just a suggestion.

I like this low-poly style. Keep it up :)

The forest look a bit strange, try putting trees more straight. Lighting should be more even, maybe try sun lamp. Mountains look like mole mounds, modifying terrain round them sholud fix it. I'm not sure if these clouds fit. They're too... round :)

I'm waiting to see the final render, should be awesome.

I've fixed the orientation of the trees, but I think I generally need some more than what I've currently got, maybe? The longer I look at them, the more forelorn they seem. Good point about the mountains. Mole mounds were definitely not what I was going for. :D I'll try working them into the terrain better.

As to the lighting, I've tried different things, but nothing quite looks right. I want to get a somewhat even light, but with shadows for visual depth. :P I'll give the sunlamp a go, maybe with some additional fill light from the side.

You're right about the clouds being too round. I kind of like the way they look, but it's not consistent with the style. I'll see what I can do about that.

Thank you so much for the feedback!
